Anas and Asala Marwah, a Dubai-based couple, took gender reveal to a whole new level by hosting at the iconic Burj Khalifa. The couple is expecting their second child this week.
Hosting gender reveal parties has become a common trend for expecting parents. However, the couple did not opt for a traditional balloon pop or smoke canon surprise.
They got the tallest tower in the world to light up to reveal the sex of their second child. The 163-storey building was lit up in pink and blue illustrations. As the couple and their daughter looked at the tower in excitement, a baby’s voice did a countdown of 10 and the tower turned blue.
“It’s a boy!” the 829.8-metre-high tower projected and congratulated the family.
“The big news just can’t get bigger than this as the world’s tallest building lights up to reveal the biggest gender reveal ever! Congratulations @anasmarwah and @asalamaleh,” the official Instagram account of Burj Khalifa wrote while sharing a video of the ceremony.
The family shared a behind-the-scenes video on their family YouTube channel called Anasala Family.
They had been working on the project for over a month and a half. “We wanted to do something unique and memorable so that we can all look at it in the future and remember what we built as a family,” Asala said in the video. Anas added, “I ask Asala every day, ‘Who are we to be (reflected) on the Burj Khalifa? Why us and not anyone else?’”
“Without you, none of this would have been made possible,” the couple thanked their viewers.
The video has received more than 1.76 million views on Instagram and over 14.8 million views on YouTube.
While many social media users were left stunned, others slammed the couple and called the event ‘extravagant’ and ‘over the top’.
According to Emirati newspaper Al Bayan, the cost of an advertisement on the entire facade of Burj Khalifa for 3 minutes is 350 thousand dirhams (Rs 70 lakh).
It is unclear whether the couple paid for the event from their own pocket or it was sponsored by the city as part of a promotional deal.
