Between vicious and virtuous world – thoughts mutate behaviour and so shall our actions

Written by Amruthavalli

Jean-Baptise Lamarck was the biologist to propose the theory of ‘use and disuse’ to explain how various anatomical organs are formed in different species of life form based on the frequent use or prolonged redundancy of all such organs.   The anatomical or morphological changes do take its shape and direction only from the frequent use of certain organs over others or their vestigial status and similarly even the human behaviour and subsequent personality that determine and defines the individual is fully programmed by our thoughts.  In essence, the way we think and the way we programme our thoughts only determines our action and our action of determine what we are.  In brief, we are nothing but the end products and by-products of our thoughts and the way we think.

The human thoughts is placed under four matrix such as

  1. Winner thinker
  2. Victim thinker
  3. Sustenance thinker
  4. Dreamer thinker

When people engage in their profession or personal life, the underlying thought process only shall influence and determines the action.  A victim thinker often would end up doing the job more with victim mind set and hence even after doing a job wonderfully also would feel sad, despondent and always lamenting.  Similarly the sustenance thinker even if some creative assignment is given, would show least enthusiasm or initiative because the thought energy that influences them is sustenance or how to maintain the status quo and not to achieve greater success or laurels or experimenting with ‘newness’.

Therefore inculcating positivism and developing and shaping thoughts in positive direction is extremely important otherwise human life will be filled with pessimism, negativity and Shada Ripu (six enemies) such kama the lust, kroda the anger, lobha the greed, mada the pride, moha the attachment and matsarya the jealous.

Hindu mythology, epic and puranas always stress upon the cardinal aspect of one being an inner winner more than a winner to the outer world.  The question of who is really happy is not that tricky or difficult to answer.  The happiest person is not the one who is richest or the one who has the highest materialistic accomplishments but the one who has realized the ‘ultimate truth’ and the ‘self’ is the happiest.  Only such people can remain ‘Sthitaprajna (स्थितप्रज्ञ)’, calm and objective in judgments.  Bhagavad Gita explains well about the importance of how thoughts can not only pollute our actions but also can make even a joyful action or experience into miserable and melancholies one.

People often get tired and started to yawn frequently, show some initial enthusiasm and then get vexed soon, always feel they are neglected or given less importance, no one is around to help them etc., all because of the mind possibly filled with disbelief, lack of honesty, transparency and trueness.  Right thoughts (positive thoughts) not only guide right action but also prelude the mind to enjoy the outcome without any validation or profit/loss or investment versus returns analysis.

India must retrace the period of Lord Krishna and Lord Ram to rebuild our land instead of wrapping under the carpet of absolute materialism to reduce as mere subterranean species burrowed inside the dark chamber of ignorance, fear and greed.

The birth of Lord Krishna rattled the confidence of Kamsa a tyrant king who ruled the land with no one to challenge because of his mind filled with negativity and greed.  The entry of Lord Ram scattered Ravan was also due to his greed.   But Prahlad did not fear his dreaded father Hiranyakashipu who was about to kill him.  The right thoughts of Prahalad imparted confidence and courage over Lord Vishnu who finally destroyed the demon – Hiranyakashipu.  The anatomical changes are nothing but the mere extension of what the mind wants out of the body.

It is like a pessimist when taken to a rose garden would complain about rose having thorns whereas an optimist would exclaim even the thorn has beautiful roses.

Our kindergarten education up to 5 standards must be more towards orienting young minds spiritually, ethically and value based than gaining bookish wisdom.   Bagavad Gita, the essence of Ramayan, Srimad Bhavad, Mahabharat, Vedas, Upanishad etc., must be taught to the young minds.  The moral, spiritual, leadership, scientific aspects of our tradition must be infused into the minds of our future generation and only then we can make our country a land of everlasting joy and glory.   Hinduism and Hindutwa must be the bone, flesh and gene of country.   Positivism not pessimism, creativity and not destructive tendency, grace not attraction, humility not power we should dispose and display.  Total and collective positive mind India must develop to surpass all adversities and succeed organically.
