BAHRAIN TAKES PART IN WARSAW PROCESS GROUP MEETING

The delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain participated in the meeting of Warsaw Process Working Group on Human Rights, one of the seven working groups emanating from the Warsaw Process, in its first meeting held in the US capital Washington, as reported by the Bahrain News Agency.


During a speech delivered at the meeting by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States, Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa , he stressed that the reform approach of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, is dedicated to achieving a just and pluralistic society in order to ensure the protection and support of its members, as well as attaining full civil, political, economic and social freedoms as provided by the Constitution, as the Kingdom has become a global model in respect of religious freedoms, women advancement, the protection of migrant workers, and combatting trafficking in persons.

In this context, the Bahraini Ambassador pointed out that a just and pluralistic society cannot be achieved without the commitment of the full and equal participation of women in this society. Therefore, the Kingdom of Bahrain has spared no effort in advancing the participation of women in all aspects of public life.   He noted that the Supreme Council for Women has adopted several plans and initiatives to empower women and ensure equal opportunities, including the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women 2013-2022, and the National Strategy to Protect Women from Domestic Violence, adding that such initiatives imbued Bahraini women with enjoy the largest representation in the public sector, and in the highest ministerial, parliamentary, judicial and diplomatic positions. The Kingdom of Bahrain has also witnessed the election of the first woman president of the legislative branch in its history.

At the end, the Ambassador stressed the pioneering role played by the Kingdom of Bahrain at the regional and international levels as a model to be emulated in the field of women empowerment, citing the Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women Empowerment, which was adopted by the UN. He added that this further reflects the recognition of Bahrain commitment to enhancing the role of women at the national and international levels. He also underlined that the Kingdom of Bahrain, in order to promote the advancement of women in the region, had welcomed the establishment of the UN Women office in Manama.
