PM Modi extends World Environment Day greetings, reaffirms commitment to environmental protection

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended wishes to the countrymen on World Environment Day. In a social media post, Mr Modi said that the day reaffirms the commitment to protecting the environment and furthering sustainable growth. He noted that numerous efforts of the Government over the last decade highlight its work in this direction. He mentioned that some of India’s key successes include expanding green cover and a rise in the population of several animals. Mr Modi also applauded the efforts of all those who are passionate about environmental conservation. He said that the people of the nation have shown how collective efforts, policies, belief in science and innovation can improve the environment. The Prime Minister further said that India is very proud of its biological diversity, and the diverse ecosystems support countless species and livelihoods. He noted that initiatives such as ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ have made significant contributions towards adding nearly 1.19 lakh hectares of forest every year. Mr Modi asserted that the Government’s efforts in special recovery have also been noteworthy, with conservation efforts for the Great Indian Bustard, snow leopards, sloth bears and Cheetahs providing a glimpse of how sustained commitment can help restore wildlife and ecosystems. The Prime Minister underlined that the country will continue working towards a cleaner, greener and more sustainable planet through the spirit of Mission LiFE, guided by the principle of ‘One Earth, One Family and One Future’ Sharing a Sanskrit quote, he emphasised that conservation of nature is not only a responsibility but also an integral part of the country’s culture and traditions.
