EAM Dr S Jaishankar calls on Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing in New Delhi

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar called on the President of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing, yesterday evening. In a social media post, Dr Jaishankar appreciated Myanmar President’s positive sentiment towards deepening the longstanding bilateral cooperation.

He said that he is looking forward to the meeting of Mr Hlaing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to advance the partnership for peace, progress and prosperity.

The visiting dignitary will hold discussions with Prime Minister Modi tomorrow on further strengthening the historical and civilisational ties between the two countries. He will also participate in a business forum.

The Myanmar President will also travel to Mumbai on Tuesday for business and industry interactions and site visits.

Mr Hlaing arrived in New Delhi yesterday evening on a five-day visit to India. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh received him at the airport.

Earlier yesterday, President of Myanmar visited Gaya in Bihar and prayed at the Mahabodhi temple. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising several Cabinet Ministers, senior officials and business leaders.This is the first visit of President U Min Aung Hlaing to India in his current capacity.
