Mr Panda defeated his nearest rival and CPI(M)’s candidate Sambhu Nath Kurmi, who secured with 40 thousand 645 votes. Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla stood third with 10,084 votes. With this victory, BJP has breached the stronghold of Trinamool Congress, whose nominee, Jahangir Khan, slipped to fourth position. The repoll in Falta was held in all 285 booths on May 21 under a security blanket of around 35 companies of central forces. Election Commission had ordered repoll in Falta after complaints surfaced about use of perfume-like substances, ink marks and adhesive tapes on EVMs at multiple booths.
