44.9 lakh patients recovered from Covid-19 in country so far: Govt

Government today said that 44.9 lakh patients have recovered from Covid-19 in the country which is the highest in the world.

Briefing media in New Delhi today, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said, India contributes 17.7 per cent share in the total COVID-19 cases, however, in terms of recovered cases, India shares 19.5 per cent of the total recovered cases.

He said, recovery rate has improved to 80.86 per cent and highest ever single day recovery of one lakh was registered in the last 24 hours.

The Union Health Secretary stressed that there has been an early detection, early isolation, seamless hospitalization and all this has been made possible because of an exponential increase in COVID-19 testing infrastructure in the country.

More than 6.5 crore tests have been conducted so far and 12 lakh tests were conducted on a single day. 

Mr Bhushan added that daily recoveries from COVID-19 are more than number of new infections reported per day since past four consecutive days.

He said, active COVID-19 cases are less than one-fifth of total 55,62, 663 infections in India.

The Secretary said, India’s COVID-19 deaths per million population are among lowest in world, which stands at 64 and world’s average stands at 123.

Member (Health) in Niti Aayog Dr V K Paul said, the overall situation continues to be under control and the country is facing the battle effectively.

He said, all tests are being conducted now by using indegenously developed kits.

Dr Paul urged everyone to show covid appropriate behaviour in view of the upcoming festival season by using masks.

He said, wearing of facial mask is utmost important to fight against the COVID-19 and to break the chain of transmission.

Speaking about district residency programme which has been notified recently, Dr Paul said, all medical students pursuing MD or MS will undergo compulsory posting for three months at district hospitals as part of their medical course curriculum.

Director General of Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr Balram Bhargava said, the second Sero survey has been completed and results will be announced soon.

He said, more cities and districts are encouraged to start state-level sero surveys.
