The second batch of 25 foreign envoys from the European Union and Gulf countries is now in Srinagar to get first-hand information about the ground situation after the abrogation of Article 370 in August last year.
The batch includes envoys from Germany, Canada, France, New Zealand, Mexico, Italy, Afghanistan, Austria, Uzbekistan, Poland, as well as envoys of the European Union.
The delegation reached Srinagar today as part of their two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Officials told AIR that the delegation met Kashmiri traders, businesswomen and entrepreneurs and discussed various issues related trade and tourism in the Union Territory.
The delegation also met civil society members, sportspersons and many youngsters besides having a detailed meeting with media persons including editors of several local newspapers. In the evening, they also met a delegation of politicians. Officials said that the administration and army briefed the envoys about the present security scenario in the Union Territory.
The delegation took a Shikara ride on the famous Dal Lake. In a tweet, Afghanistan envoy, Tahir Qudiry, praised the hospitality of Kashmiri people.
The delegation was scheduled to visit north Kashmir’s Baramulla today, but the visit was cancelled due to bad weather conditions.
They will visit Jammu tomorrow and meet the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu and higher officials of the administration.
Earlier, a team of 15 envoys, including US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster, paid a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir in January.
The Central Government abrogated Article 370 and bifurcated the erstwhile state Jammu and Kashmir into Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh on the 5th of August, 2019.
