16th Lok Sabha registers 20% more productivity than previous

The 16th Lok Sabha, which had its last working day yesterday (13 February 2019), was 20% more productive as compared to the previous one.

This Lok Sabha, which was constituted in May 2014, worked for a total of 1,615 hours. During its tenure, 180 bills were passed and 45 ordinances were promulgated.

The parliamentarians discussed major issues such as the agrarian crisis in the country, inflation, various natural calamities, Andhra Pradesh reorganisation law, Rafale jet deal, alleged misuse of investigative agencies, economic offenders, Kaveri water dispute and more. Most of these issues were raised by opposition parties in both the Houses, leading to disruptions.

This Lok Sabha suffered a 16% loss of scheduled time due to disruptions. The 15th Lok Sabha lost 37% and the 14th Lok Sabha, 14%.

Lok Sabha elections are due this summer.
