Indian cricket Yuvraj Singh announced his retirement today from international cricket. A well-celebrated cricketer, Yuvraj Singh made various contributions to Indian cricket over the 17 years of his international career since making his debut back in 2000.
But there is one unforgettable moment of Yuvraj’s career during the T20I match between India and England during first ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 where he hit six sixes off Stuart Broad in a single over at Kingsmead. Many cricket fans still remember September 19, 2007, as the day when Yuvi got stuck into the English pacer.
Yuvi smashed six sixes in the 19th over of the first innings, scoring a fastest-ever T20I half-century in just 12 balls. In T20Is, it was the first time that a player had hit six sixes.
India, batting first, started off aggressively as both the openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, who scored 68 and 58 respectively to provide a solid platform with their 136-run opening partnership. India then lost some momentum before Yuvraj came in, and the rest is history.
Yuvraj took the game away from England in a matter of one over. The former English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff made a big mistake by aiming a barrage of verbal volleys at Yuvraj and the young left-hander back then responded by hitting six sixes in an over from Broad. Broad didn’t know where to bowl as whatever that was delivered to Yuvraj, went out of the park.
