Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has said that the world community should come together to fight against terrorism.
Mr Naidu said terrorism should be put down by joint and concerted efforts. Addressing the third edition of Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Summit on Innovation and Governance in New Delhi today, Mr Naidu said that the political parties should speak in one voice against terrorism and support the nation and its armed forces. He said those who are funding terror networks must be punished.
The Vice President urged the young generation to research and come up with new ideas and innovations and contribute to the Indian growth story. He said the critical challenge is to deploy the best possible ideas in the innovation-led development of the rural areas of the nation, where sixty per cent of the country’s population lives. He said, rural India needs attention for development and the urban-rural divide has to be removed.
Remembering Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, the Vice President said, Dr Kalam’s name conjures up visions of India that all Indians dream of. He said, Dr Kalam’s dreamt of an India that is firmly on a development trajectory, harnessing its intellectual, cultural and spiritual capital to regain its rightful place in the comity of nations. Mr Naidu said Dr Kalam stood for the vision that for India to become a superpower where governance should be transparent, responsive and corruption-free.
The Vice President said that he believes like Dr Kalam that governance is key, performance is the only touchstone for real progress. He said ideas have to be translated into tangible realities.
On the occasion, Mr Naidu presented Kalam Innovation in Governance Award. 75 new Kalam Digital Libraries spread across India were also opened on the occasion. The Kalam Libraries will be serving as centres for no-cost digital-based learning in schools.
