In an attempt to stem the COVID-19 spread, West Bengal will witness complete lockdown on Monday. To break the chain on coronavirus infection, the Bengal government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to enforce lockdown in the state on September 7, 11 and 12.
Since July 23, the Bengal administration has been implementing lockdown every week to contain the COVID-19 outbreak, which has been spreading at a fast rate in the state.
The normal life is expected to come to a grinding halt as the Bengal government has ensured that the lockdown restrictions are enforced very strictly on the mentioned dates. Heavy deployment is expected to be witnessed on the streets to ensure that there is no violation of lockdown.
As per the lockdown restrictions, public transport will stay off the roads. The government and private offices have been ordered to remain closed.
The banks, shopping malls and other commercial establishments have been asked to keep shutters down. Flight operations at the Kolkata airport will also remain were suspended today.
Essential services like medicine shops and health institutions will remain open as these have been kept out of the purview of the complete shutdown. Petrol pumps will also continue to operate. Educational institutions, including schools, colleges, which have remain closed since late March when the first phase of the nationwide lockdown started, will continue to remain shut.
Bengal witnessed complete lockdown on August 5, 8, 20, 21.
