The West Bengal government has again imposed strict restrictions from today in wake of the fast spreading Omicron cases. After reviewing the present Covid situation in the state, Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi on Sunday announced that all educational institutions will be closed from Monday. According to the order issued by the state, all academic activities in schools, colleges and universities shall remain closed. Only administrative activities shall be permitted with 50% of employees at a time. Private and government offices will be allowed to function with up to 50 percent strength.
Government and private offices have been asked to encourage work from home as far as possible. Local trains will operate till 7 pm with 50 percent sitting capacity. Kolkata Metro services shall operate with 50 per cent seating capacity as per usual operational time. Flights from Mumbai and Delhi will be permitted on Mondays and Fridays. Salons, spas, swimming pools, beauty parlours, zoos and entertainment parks will also be shut down from tomorrow. The order further states that shopping malls, market complexes, restaurants and bars, cinema halls and theaters will be allowed to function with up to 50 percent capacity till 10 pm.
It may be recalled that West Bengal reported 4,512 new Covid cases yesterday with over 2,400 cases in Kolkata while the positivity rate crossed 12 percent.
