Union Home Minister Amit Shah Assures Full Support to Punjab for Flood Relief and Restoration

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the Narendra Modi government is standing shoulder to shoulder with the people of Punjab and is committed to providing all possible help to flood-affected people of the state. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Mr Shah in New Delhi last evening and apprised him of the extent of damage caused in the State in the aftermath of floods during the monsoon season. He also demanded additional funds for the state for disaster relief and restoration.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister was apprised that in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), the State has sufficient funds to the tune of over 12 thousand 589 crore rupees, which can be utilised for the relief and immediate restoration to the affected people as per Government of India norms.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, in a statement, said that the Central Government has provided all possible assistance from central agencies to the state administration in search, rescue and immediate restoration during the recent floods in the State. The Ministry added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Punjab on 9th September and reviewed the flood situation and damages caused in the state. The Ministry stated that out of the financial assistance of 1,600 crore rupees announced by the Prime Minister, 805 crore rupees have already been released to the State Government and intended beneficiaries. The rest amount will be released on receipt of relevant information from the State.
