UN approves Indian proposal to promote jowar-millet, PM says proud moment for India

A few days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said about coarse grains in the country that the demand for coarse grains was already very high in the world, but after Corona, it has become very famous as an immunity booster.

At the same time, the Indian initiative to promote grains like jowar-bajra has achieved great success. India’s proposal to declare the year 2023 as the International Year of Millet (millet) grain has been approved by the General Assembly of the United Nations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the countries supporting India’s proposal.

He said that this success will create new research possibilities for agricultural scientists and start-ups. Besides, consumption of jowar-bajra will ensure nutritional and food security as well as welfare of farmers.

India sponsored proposal approved in UN

Indeed, the United Nations has approved an India-sponsored proposal today on the international year of jowar-millet (mills). India’s Ambassador to the United Nations was happy to inform about this. He said that this is a major step towards promoting nutritional and ecological benefits as a major component of changes in food basket and impact policy.

As such, India thanks all the co-sponsors, especially Bangladesh, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, Russia and Senegal and all the member states of the United Nations for their strong support.

PM said proud moment for India

Only after this, PM Modi tweeted that the success achieved in the United Nations was a proud moment for India. He tweeted and thanked all the countries that initiated and co-sponsored the resolution on millet in the United Nations. He told that tasty jowar-bajra murakku was also served to the distinguished delegates. It is a snack that they taste and urge other colleagues to try it too.

The Prime Minister wrote in another tweet that India is at the forefront of popularizing jowar-millet. Its consumption leads to nutrition, food security and welfare of farmers. It also provides research and innovation opportunities for agricultural scientists and start-up communities.
