Travellers from India inoculated with Bharat Biotech’s ‘COVAXIN’ can travel to any part of the United Kingdom starting today, as the country recognised the vaccine in its approved list. As a result, thousands of travellers, inoculated with the COVAXIN, will not have to self-isolate after arrival in Britain.
The decision by the British authorities came in after the World Health Organization granted emergency use authorisation to India’s indigenously developed- COVAXIN on November 3.
Earlier, taking to Twitter, British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis said, “From 22 November travellers fully vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine recognised by WHO for Emergency Use Listing, including Covaxin, will not have to self-isolate.”
Apart from COVAXIN, China’s Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines had also been included in the list of approved vaccines by the UK Government, benefitting more fully vaccinated people from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and India.
Canada to recognize Covaxin from Nov. 30:
Recently, the Canadian government authorities said it will recognise made-in-India Covaxin starting November 30.
“Starting November 30, 2021, 03:01 AM EST three additional COVID-19 vaccines approved for use by the World Health Organization will be accepted for travel to and within Canada- Sinopharm, Sinovac and Covaxin,” the Canadian government release reads.
110 countries recognize Covishield, Covaxin:
The Government officials earlier said that around 110 countries have recognised India’s Covishield and Covaxin, thereby easing travel restrictions for education, business and tourism purposes.
Covaxin and Covishield are two widely used COVID-19 vaccines being used by the Government for its immunization programme apart from Russia’s Sputnik and Johnson and Johnson’s single-dose vaccine.
