Two killed, Over 20 missing after Dam breach in Maharashtra

Two people were killed and more than 20 are reportedly missing after Tiware Dam in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra breached last night following heavy rain.

The breach has caused a flood-like situation in seven downstream villages. 13 houses near the dam have been washed away.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been rushed to the spot. Civil administration, police and volunteers are carrying out relief and rescue operations.

The MeT Office has forecast intermittent rain with isolated heavy falls in Mumbai and its suburbs in the next 24 hours.

The city is limping back to normalcy after there was a decrease in the intensity of rain yesterday.

Five consecutive days of rain had paralysed Mumbai, affecting road, rail and air traffic. About 34 people have lost their lives in various rain-related incidents across the state. The rescue operation is still on at the site of Malad wall collapse incident in which 21 were killed.
