United States President Donald Trump declared a national emergency to fulfil his desire of building a wall along the country’s southern border with Mexico.
However, this has raised the hackles of some state administrations. In a lawsuit on Monday, 16 states, including California and New York sued Trump for his decision to declare a national emergency.
The lawsuit has been filed in the Federal District Court of San Francisco. It states that the Congress controls the expenditures, thus the president cannot transfer any funds for the construction of any wall along the border.
The law suit, identified as “Califonia et al. v. Trump et al.”, says that the states are trying to protect their residents, natural resources and economic interests from President Donald J Trump’s disregard of fundamental separation of powers principles engrained in the United States Cositition. The lawsuit says Trump has brazenly imposed an unconstitutional and unlawful scheme.
The lawsuit infers that the president has not cared for the opinions and powers of the Congress.
Last week, Trump cited “unlawful immigration” to declare national emergency and divert funds to build a wall along the southern border with Mexico.
