Towering RSS intellectual is no more

P Parameswaran , director, Bharatiya Vichara Kendra and senior most RSS pracharak in Kerala breathed his last in the wee hours of Sunday at Ottappalam. He was 93 and was the founder editor of Kesari, the Malayalam mouthpiece of the RSS. Besides being a journalist, Paryameswarji, as he was addressed by everybody, was a poet, philosopher, thinker, author and political commentator.

The nation had honored him with Padmabhooshan and Padma Shree for his services to the country and the people. With the demise of Parameswarji, Hindus in Kerala have lost a guiding spirit and “guru”, whom they depended on as the last word in hours of distress and dejection faced by the society.

Parameswarji , born at Muhamma, in Alappuzha district was the president of Vivekananda Kendra at Kanyakumari and was responsible in making the Vivekananda philosophy to the Keralites by getting the literary works of the monk translated into Malayalam and also interpreting the observations of the saint for the common man.

The growth of the Sangh Parivar in Kerala was mainly due to the intellectual and philosophical works of Parameswarji. While the Marxists and Maoists believed in annihilating class enemies through gruesome murders, this great son of India taught the Sangh Patrivar that it was easy to take on the Leftists through ideological battle. It was ParameswarJi who first told the world that . The Third World concept launched by the Marxists would not survive even for one year. Later events proved that the Third World Theory falling flat with the proponents of the doctrine itself refusing to speak anything about the fiasco.

“We should live in the First World itself. There are no scope for second or third worlds which are flouted by the Communists to cover up their failed ideology. The answer to the Communist ideology is there in Indian philosophy itself, in Hindu philosophy and in the Integral Humanism devised by Deen Dayal Upadhyaya,” he had said in his speeches as well as writings.

What made ParameswarJi different and distinct from other social and political leaders in the country was the philosophical training he had received from Swamy Agamananda , the great monk of the Vivekananda Mission. The Bharatiya Vichara Kendra, a socio-political think tank , of which he was the founder president , emerged as a beacon of hope and guiding spirit for Kerala as well as India.

He was the All India General Secretary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and had undergone imprisonment during the Internal Emergency of 1975-77 under the MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act) regime. After the merger of BJS with the Janata Party in 1977, Parameswar Ji left active politics and devoted his life for pursuing studies in philosophy and culture. Though he was invited by Atal Bihari Vajpayee to join the NDA Government in 1998, he declined the same politely and focussed more on designing an Indian style of development and progress.

The reactions form the President of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top political and social leaders of the country on the demise of ParameswarJi prove beyond doubt that he was the one and only Sun which energised and lighted the Kerala society which was once described by none other than Swamy Vivekananda as a lunatic asylum.

A person at the age of 93 and his close associates would only pray to God Almighty for facilitating a peaceful and smooth departure from this world . But here was a maneeshi for whom his associates were pleading to the Almighty to bless him with another nine decades of life with which Kerala and India would have prospered more.

After SreeNarayana Guru, Chattampi Swamikal, Swamy Sathyananda Saraswathy, he was the last of the titans to adore the State of Kerala. Au revoir ParameswarJi… Till we meet again… Kerala has lost its greatest son of modern times.
