A furore has been created across India by the series called “God-man” for its Hinduphobic content targeting a particular community and displaying holy symbols of Hindus in poor light. This series was supposed to be released by Zee5, an OTT platform. Targeting Hindus has been the new norm for content producers in Tamil Nadu for a while, If raised suspicions, they disguise under the freedom of expression gloss. This vicious onslaught will be viewed severely if other faiths are targeted, for which they had to face massive slack.

This controversy began with a trailer that contained explicitly denigrating contents and conversations depicting a community in a poor light. Owing to the attention it gained, there were immediate repercussions from Hindus across Tamil Nadu which shortly turned into a national subject. Protest for banning the content immediately flared  can be glimpsed in youtube and micro blogging platforms. Moreover, it quickly captured the attention of stalwart national leaders like Subramanian Swamy and few others. sources also indicate that, he was informed about the scathing web series from Kanchi  Peetam. Dr.Swamy was seen instantly reacting to the issue directly persuading to ban the insensitive content legally .

Quickly, Zee5 Tamil issued an official statement due to massive backlash from audiences, that they decided to  temporarily suspend the series for being a ‘Responsible’ Content creator.  Also, they reaffirmed that Zee5 Tamil had no motive to offend the sentiments of the community. however initially, it was defiant to views of the audiences clarifying the series didn’t offend anyone in person. But owing to severe criticism, the uproar in social media from vibrant personalities and number of cases filed in the cyber-crime, they had to mend down in its own ways to stop the series, else their reputation across pan-India would have been put to toss owing to the attention it garnered in a shorter time.

An FIR has been registered against the director of the show Babu Yogeswaran, producer Ilango Raghupathy, under charges of promoting enmity between different groups. They are booked under IPC sections 63/20, 153, 153 (A), 295A,504, 505 1(B) and 505(2).

When actors on the series were contacted, they explained that they are oblivious about the plot and acted in series without realizing the narrative but contrary to the statement, their twitter feeds promoted the series and use of denigrating choice of words do not suffice their claim.

After all, the director of the series Babu Yogeswaran, instead of coming in air to tender apology and clearing reservations put forward by the offended people, surprisingly raised  petition in Change.org stating his freedom of expression being curtailed by Brahminical fascist groups. The above statement clearly indicates the motive of the director defaming Hindus in large. Content producers seem convinced by the fact they can get away with anything in the name of freedom of expression even if it impacts on the sentiments of people.

This incident outlining an example for such similar content creators in future can’t get away easily while handling a sensitive subject tweaking it in a malefic way to create distress and brazing it down silently in a name of right to expression.
