A 2-year-old boy fell into a 25-feet deep borewell in Nadukattupatti of Tiruchirappalli district on Friday. Even after 15 hours of the incident, rescue operation for the 2 year old Sujith Wilson is still on.
In a set back to the rescue mission, Sujith who was at a 30 meter depth initially has now fallen further down to a distance of 70 meters.
Soon after receiving the information, rescue teams rushed the spot and first dug the land adjacent to the borewell, using an earthmover, to create a tunnel to reach Sujith. However, the fire service team stopped drilling the land due to rock terrains below 10 feet.
Health Minister Vijayabaskar, tourism minister Vallamandi Natrajan and minority and welfare minister Valarmathi are still at the spot. They are directing the authorities concerned to try their best and rescue Sujith at earliest.
Speaking to the media at the location Health Minister Vijayabaskar said, “Expert teams have come from neighbouring districts to help in the rescue operation. He also said that the child’s breathing could be heard from a micro camera that was sent 60 feet deep to monitor the situation.”
The child fell into the deep well around 5 pm last evening while playing outside his residence. The last 15 hours has been critical with the Tamil Nadu government putting its best effort to bring the child out of the deep well.
At present, the medical team is providing oxygen supply to the boy from outside the borewell, where rescue operations are still underway.

The setback in the rescue mission is because of the wetness of the mud in the region. Now a NDRF team from Chennai and Arakkonam based on Tamil Nadu CM’s instruction to assist in the rescue mission are on their way to the location.
Health Minister Vijayabaskar, who is at the spot, said, “Till 5.30 am we were able to hear the sounds of the child, but after that we have not been able to hear anything. We are not able to assess his condition. The supply of oxygen through oxygen cylinders has been continuously given.”
“We faced set back when mud starting falling down because of the wet state of the mud. Already various methods have been tried to rescue the child, we tried using rope to pull the boy out. We also used the suction method that is generally used to pull the new born baby out of the womb. But all of them have failed so far,” he added.
He also said that the child has been stuck in the well which has only a 4 inch diameter and the child is in a position we have been finding difficult to pull him out.
The CM has sent the NDRF teams now and all efforts to bring the child out are underway.
MK Stalin said, “It is heartbreaking. Just like how Sujith’s family, we too are in a state of fear and pray that Sujith be retrieved soon. I urge the government officials to act quickly and save Sujith using all their efforts. These kind of tragedies which are becoming a continuous series should have a permanent end.”
