“Surgical Strike” commander denies joining Congress

“Surgical Strike” commanding officer Lt. Gen. (Retd). D S Hooda has denied reports of him having joined the Congress party.

The party had asked him to prepare a report on national security and also a vision document for the security of India, setting off speculation that he has joined the Congress.

The Congress party asked Hooda to prepare the documents two months after he had opined that the surgical strikes were overhyped and politicised.

In September 2016, the Indian defence forces executed a surgical strike across the border in retaliation to the terrorist attack on the Indian army camp in Uri sector. DS Hooda was the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Northern Command at that time. He retired from service in November 2016.
