As the situation along the Line of Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh continues to remain very tense, reports say that Rezang La has emerged as the latest flashpoint between the Indian Army and China’s People’s Liberation Army.
Armies of India and China continue to communicate with each other even as Chinese troops are in a face-off position with Indian troops near the Rezang La heights.
Reports say that for the last 3-4 days, the PLA troops are trying to capture the heights in the areas where the Indian Army soldiers have stationed themselves. Around 30-40 Chinese troops are said to be deployed in the area.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army today claimed that Chinese troops on Monday fired shots in the air in an attempt to intimidate its soldiers at one of our forward positions along the LAC. The PLA accused Indian forces of crossing the LAC and “outrageously fired” warning shots near the Pangong lake in eastern Ladakh.
The Indian Army categorically rejected the accusations and said that the troops didn’t resort to any “aggressive means”, including firing.
“At no stage has the Indian Army transgressed across the LAC or resorted to use of any aggressive means, including firing. It is the PLA that has been blatantly violating agreements and carrying out aggressive maneuvres, while engagement at military, diplomatic and political level is in progress,” the Army said.
“In the instant case on September 7, it was the PLA troops who were attempting to close-in with one of our forward positions along the LAC and when dissuaded by own (Indian) troops, PLA troops fired a few rounds in the air in an attempt to intimidate own troops,” the statement added.
