Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 extended gains on Monday. Strong buying interest seen in media, utility and power stocks. Selling pressure witnessed in select financial stocks. Power Grid Corp was the top gainer among blue-chip stocks, surged 4.44 per cent. NTPC, UltraTech Cement, Reliance, and IndusInd Bank were among the other top Sensex gainers, while Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, HDFC, Dr Redyy’s Labs and SBI were laggards.
Earlier in Asian Indices, South Korea’s Kospi increased by 0.37 per cent, Japan’s Nikkei 225 index increased by 0.27 per cent and China’s Shanghai Composite surged by 0.21 per cent.
Market Overview
The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 increased by 0.44 and 0.52 per cent respectively. The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed above the 52,300 level while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled at the 15,751 mark. The Sensex gained 228 points to trade at 52,328 and the Nifty50 rose by 81 points to trade at 15,751.
Nifty50 Index
In the 50-share pack of Nifty50, Adani Ports was the biggest gainer, increased by 5.32 per cent. Power Grid Corp, NTCP, Shree Cements, Tata Motors, UltraTech Cement and Adani Coal India were among other gainers.
On the other hand, Bajaj Finance was the worst performer in the pack, down by 4.40 per cent. Bajaj Finserv, HDFC, JSW Steel, Divis Labs, Cipla and Dr Reddys Labs were the other worst performers in the pack.
Small-cap and Mid-cap Indices
The Nifty Midcap-100 index surged 1.24 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap-100 index rose 1.56 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, Adani Power gained 20.00 per cent, Yes Bank rose 9.75 per cent, IRCTC, Castrol and Torrent Power also surged, while Jubilant Pharmova, Indiabulls Hsg and Future Retail declined. In Nifty Smallcap-100, Metropolis gained 13.13 per cent. On the other hand, KEI Industries fell 4.56 per cent, JM Financial, Avanti Feeds, Affle India declined.
Sectoral Indices
In NSE sectoral indices, 12 out of 17 sectors surged. Nifty Energy was the top performer as it gained 1.85 per cent, NSE PSE rose 1.83 per cent, followed by Nifty Infra increased by 1.64 per cent. On the other hand, Nifty Metal, Nifty Realty and Nifty Fin Service declined.
