Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 ended on the green side of the market on Monday. Buying interest was seen in metal and oil-gas stocks. Selling pressure was witnessed in PSU bank shares. Tata Steel was the top gainer among blue-chip stocks, surged 3.96 per cent. Bajaj Finance, M&M, Bajaj Finserv, and Reliance were among the other top Sensex gainers. While Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj Auto, Power Grid Corp and Ultra Tech Cement were laggards.
Earlier in Asian Indices, Singapore’s Straits Times fell by 0.63 per cent and Japan’s Nikkei 225 index declined by 1.62 per cent. China’s Shanghai Composite increased by 0.03 per cent.
Market Overview
The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 increased by 0.26 and 0.21 per cent respectively. The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed at 55,550 level while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled at the 16,563 mark. The Sensex gained 145 points to trade at 55,582 and the Nifty50 rose by 33 points to trade at 16,563.
Nifty50 Index
In Nifty50 index shares, Tata Steel was the biggest gainer, increased by 3.95 per cent. Bajaj Finance, M&M, IOC, Britannia and BPCL were among the other gainers.
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki was the worst performer in the pack, down by 2.50 per cent. Shree Cements, Power Grid Corp, Bajaj Auto, Eicher Motors, Ultra Tech Cement and SBI were the other worst performers in the pack.
Small-cap and Mid-cap Indices
The Nifty Midcap-100 index declined 0.34 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap-100 index fell 0.78 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, Fortis Health gained 8.96 per cent, Apollo Hospital rose 6.91 per cent, REC, JSW Energy and GMR Infra also surged, while Vodafone Idea, CG Consumer and Future Retail declined. In Nifty Smallcap-100, Sun Pharma Advance gained 7.12 per cent. On the other hand, Kaveri Seed fell 6.53 per cent, Spicejet, Dilip Buildcon and Strides Pharma declined.
Sectoral Indices
In NSE sectoral indices, 11 out of 20 sectors surged. Nifty Metal was the top performer as it gained 1.48 per cent, Nifty OilGas rose 0.93 per cent, followed by Nifty Commodities increased by 0.58 per cent. On the other hand, Nifty Media was the worst performer, down by 1.44 per cent, followed by Nifty PSU Bank declined by 0.99 per cent.
