Sensex-Nifty bounce back, Sensex closes 374 points higher, Nifty at 14,406

Indian stock market bounced back from a near three-month low to an end higher on Thursday as investors looked at a massive surge in COVID-19 infections to progress on vaccinations, with metals and bank stocks leading the gains. BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 gained 0.79 and 0.77 per cent respectively today. The Sensex of Bombay Stock Exchange closed above the 48,000 level while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled above the 14,400 mark. The Sensex rose 374 points to trade at 48,080 and the Nifty50 surged by 110 points to trade at 14,406.

In Sensex shares, 19 shares out of 30 companies gained. ICICI Bank is the top gainer as it gained more than 3 and a half per cent followed by the HDFC which rose 2.66 per cent, Bajaj Auto gained 2.29 per cent, HDFC Bank surged 2.25 per cent, SBI gained 2.12 per cent. On the other hand, 11 stocks out of 30 Sensex shares closed on the red side. Titan Company plunged 2.75 per cent and HUL declined 1.81 per cent.

The broader market at the NSE also saw positive demand. The Nifty Midcap 100 index gained 0.46 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index surged 0.85 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, Indiabulls Hsg gained more than 7 per cent, SAIL and AU Small Finance surged more than 5 per cent. Pfizer and COFORGE Ltd Slipped more than 4 and a half per cent. In Nifty Smallcap 100, TV18 Broadcast gained 19.60 per cent. On the other hand, Hind Copper declined 2.74 per cent.

In BSE sectoral indices, 15 out of 20 sectors gained. The BSE Private Bank, BSE Finance and BSE Metal sector rose more than 1 and a half per cent followed by BSE Reality surged by 1.40 per cent. On the other hand, the BSE Consumer durables sector ended on the red side and declined 1.51 per cent, followed by BSE FMCG which plunged 0.60 per cent.
