Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 ended at a fresh high on Friday. Strong buying interest was seen in metal, IT and pharma stocks. Selling pressure witnessed in real estate and banking stocks. Dr Reddy’s Labs was the top gainer among blue-chip stocks, surged 3 per cent. Power Grid Corp, TCS, Infosys, and HCL Tech were among the other top Sensex gainers, while Larsen and Toubro, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank were laggards.
Earlier in Asian Indices, South Korea’s Kospi increased by 0.77 per cent. Japan’s Nikkei 225 index fell by 0.03 per cent and China’s Shanghai Composite declined by 0.58 per cent.
Market Overview
The BSE Sensex and Nifty50 increased by 0.33 and 0.39 per cent respectively. The Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange closed above the 52,450 level while Nifty50 of the National Stock Exchange settled at the 15,799 mark. The Sensex gained 174 points to trade at 52,474 and the Nifty50 rose by 61 points to trade at 15,799.
Nifty50 Index
In the 50-share pack of Nifty50, Tata Steel was the biggest gainer, increased by 3.94 per cent. Coal India, JSW Steel, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Hindalco, Power Grid Corp and TCS were among other gainers.
On the other hand, Larsen and Toubro was the worst performer in the pack, down by 1.07 per cent. HDFC Life, SBI Life Insurance, Divis Labs, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel and Axis Bank were the other worst performers in the pack.
Small-cap and Mid-cap Indices
The Nifty Midcap-100 index surged 0.22 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap-100 index rose 0.54 per cent. In Nifty Midcap 100, Future Retail gained 9.98 per cent, AU Small Finance rose 5.67 per cent, SAIL, Ashok Leyland and Jindal Steel also surged, while Adani Power, Quess Corp and Emami declined. In Nifty Smallcap-100, NBCC India gained 12.09 per cent. On the other hand, Firstsource Solutions fell 4.12 per cent, Indiabulls Real Estate, TV18 Broadcast, Century Plyboard declined.
Sectoral Indices
In NSE sectoral indices, 8 out of 17 sectors surged. Nifty Metal was the top performer as it gained 2.69 per cent, Nifty IT rose 1.51 per cent, followed by Nifty Pharma increased by 1.05 per cent. While Nifty Realty and Nifty Media declined.
