The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has started the registration for National Overseas Scholarship 2023 scheme from Februray 15. The registration process will conclude on March 31. Candidates who are interested and eligible can apply for the scholarship on the official website – nosmsje.gov.in.
Objective of the scholarship
The scheme aims to facilitate low-income students belonging to the scheduled castes (SC), denotified nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes, landless agricultural labourers and traditional artisans’ category to pursue higher education – master’s degree or PhD courses by studying abroad.
Total slots available
1) Scheduled castes (SC): 115
2) Denotified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Tribes: 6
3) Landless Agricultural Labourers and Traditional Artisans: 4
4) Total: 125 slots
Age Criteria
The candidates should not be more than 35 years age on the first day of April for the selection year. For more details, candidates are requested to visit the official website and read the complete guidelines regarding the same.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the National Overseas Scholarship, one must have at least 60% (or an equivalent grade) in their qualifying examination. In the case of PhD courses, the qualifying exam would be a master’s degree, and for master’s degree courses, the qualifying examination would be a bachelor’s degree.
Income Ceiling
Total family income from all sources shall not exceed Rs. 8 lakh per annum in the preceding financial year. The income certificate should be issued by a Revenue Officer not below the rank of “Tehsildar”. The students will submit the ITR/ITRs of the family members as well.

What is the National Overseas Scholarship?
The National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) is a scheme introduced by the Central Government to assist students from low income families that are in the Schedule Caste category to pursue a Master’s Degree or PhD Courses outside of India.
Through the NOS scheme, the Central Government would provide financial assistance to the selected candidates for PG and PhD courses.
