In Jharkhand, Polling begins for the first phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections. Polling started at 7 a.m. and will end at 3 p.m. The constituencies spread over six districts of Chatra, Palamu, Gumla, Garhwa, Latehar and Lohardagga. All constituencies fall under Naxal infested areas.
The BJP is contesting 12 seats, while it is supporting an Independent from Hussainabad. The opposition alliance of the JMM, Congress and RJD is contesting in four, six and three constituencies each. Prominent candidates in the fray are BJP nominee and Jharkhand Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi and Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee, president Rameshwar Oraon. Over 37 lakh 83 thousand voters will decide the electoral fortune of 189 candidates, including 15 women candidates.
Out of total 4,892 booths, 1,790 have been declared most-sensitive, while over one thousand two hundred booths as sensitive. Around 35 thousand Jawans of Central Para-Military Forces have been deployed to ensure free and fair polls. Elections in Jharkhand will be held in five phases and the results will be declared on 23rd of December.
