In an unprecedented move, North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor Jai Prakash on Tuesday suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors, including Leader of Opposition Vikas Goel, for allegedly “misbehaving and creating ruckus” during its proceedings.
The NDMC mayor suspended all the AAP councillors for three months. Notably, the NDMC is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
It is being alleged that when a discussion on the issue of due salaries of the NDMC employees was going on when AAP councillors created a ruckus inside the House and some of the members stood up on desks and also rushed towards the Well of the House.
Justifying his move of suspending the AAP councillors, the NDMC mayor said, “Twenty-two councillors of AAP have been suspended for misbehaving and creating ruckus inside the House. Some of them stood on desks, some trooped to the Well of the House. And social distancing norms were thrown to the wind, hence the action.”
