The court will hear the matter regarding the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Idgah row on September 30 on the issue of maintainability of a petition by Krishna devotees seeking the removal of a mosque near the temple, the Mathura civil judge said. The court will decide on September 30 whether to admit the plea or not.
A petition was filed in the court of the district’s Senior Civil Judge Chhaya Sharma on Friday, demanding the annulment of a 1968 Mathura court ruling, ratifying a land deal reached between the Shri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan and Shahi Idgah Management Committee on the mosque.
If the plea is admitted, notices will be issued to the Central Sunni Waqf Board, the Shahi Idgah mosque and the trust which is administering the mosque. Whereas, if the petition is not admitted, it will be dismissed.
Uttar Pradesh Power Minister Shrikant Sharma, who visited Mathura to supervise the power infrastructure development work in the district, had said in a democratic country, everyone has the right to choose and profess his faith and everyone has also the freedom of speech and expression.
Meanwhile, the Opposition has suggested that this is a fresh polarisation attempt by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
