The Kerala Government has decided to impose total lockdown on the next two Sundays, in the wake of continued spike in Covid-19 cases. Essential services will get exemption. School education upto Class Twelve will be through online classes from today. Curbs have also been imposed on the number of persons attending public gatherings and ceremonies. Districts will be classified into three categories and Collectors can decide on area-specific restrictions.
The Covid Review Committee which met yesterday also decided against complete lockdown or night curfew in the State. Business establishments, theme parks and tourist spots will be allowed to function strictly following Covid protocols.
Meanwhile, Kerala reported 46,387 positive cases yesterday, taking the actives cases to 1,99,041. Fifteen thousand 388 persons under treatment recovered. Test Positivity Rate climbed to 40.21%. Thiruvananthapuram district recorded the highest daily caseload of 9,720 followed by Ernakulam -9,605. Besides 32 new Covid deaths, the Health Department also reported 309 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. Omicron positive cases also surged to 707 with 62 more persons contracting infection of the virus variant.
