Kerala grandmother learns to use laptop at 90 to read news, netizens love her zeal to learn and adapt

A 90-year-old grandmother from Kerala’s Thrissur district who is learning to use a laptop to read e-newspaper has won the hearts of social media users. Photos of the grandmother have gone viral on social media.

Arun Thomas took to Reddit to share photos of his grandmother, Mary Mathew, using the laptop to read the newspaper. “My grandmother, aged 90, learning to use the laptop to read the e-newspaper. I think her willingness to accept and adapt to change is really appreciable,” Thomas captioned the photos.

“She starts off with reading the obituary and keeps a track of the people who died in a week,” Thomas said in the comments section.

“She has been reading news online for the past one month, learning slowly but surely. We had to cancel the physical newspaper owing to Covid-19 fears, and she loves to read the newspaper, so, this was the only way,” Thomas told the reporters.

Netizens were delighted to see Mathew’s zeal to adapt to technology. Many suggested that Thomas should elevate the level of the laptop so that she didn’t have to bend down.

One user said, “Amazing that she’s learning this now and she really looks super healthy and happy!” Another wrote, “Kudos to her! Learning and adapting at this age ain’t easy also, please get her an adjustable laptop stand .. sitting with her back Bent will cause back problems.”

Someone commented, “Her smile is the brightest.” Yet another added, “My grandmother will turn 80 next year and the iPad is her go to. She plays casino games, Candy crush, builds puzzles, keeps in touch with the family, reads the paper… everything from the tablet. It’s quite cool! That generation is hella tough and I’m sure they can adapt if they’re willing to try.”
