#IPLAnthemCopied trends on Twitter after rapper Krishna Kaul accuses organisers of plagiarism

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 season is all set to start from September 19 in the UAE and the organisers recently unveiled the anthem for the 13th edition named ‘Aayenge Hum Waapas’. As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the upcoming season would be played in the UAE and keeping the social distancing guidelines in mind, fans might not be allowed to cheer for their respective teams in the stadiums.

The anthem features several fans from across the country, with an assurance to the fans that the matches will soon return with fans cheering for their teams from the stadiums.

However, soon after the anthem was launched, it triggered a controversy as Delhi-based rapper KR$NA has accused the organisers of plagiarism, claiming that that IPL 2020 anthem has been copied from his song “Dekh Kaun Aaya Waapas.”

“Hey guys, @IPL has plagiarised my song “Dekh Kaun Aaya Waapas” and created “Aayenge Hum Wapas” as this years anthem without credit or consent. I request my fellow artists and friends on twitter to RT this tweet for awareness, they can not get away with this. @DisneyPlusHS,” he tweeted.

On Thursday, #IplAnthemCopied was trending in Indian on Twitter with close to 8,000 tweets on the topic.

‘Aayenge Hum Wapas’ anthem has been sung by Rohit Kumar Chaudhary aka RCR Rapper, and composed by Pranav Ajayrao Malpe.

Refuting KR$NA’s allegations, Dhruv told Times of India that the accusations are false and it’s an original composition by him.

“The song has been created by me and my team through our hard work and efforts. It has not been inspired by any other artiste’s work. These accusations against me are completely false. The lyrics of the song are also completely different.”

Dhruv added that he had also sent the song to the Music Composers Association of India (MCAI) – an independent body with many of the country’s leading musicians as its members, to check where there is any plagiarism involved.
