Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra to compete in Diamond League Final in Zurich

Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will compete in the Diamond League Final in Zurich on Thursday. He will face tough rivals like Anderson Peters of Grenada and Julian Weber of Germany.

Chopra, the 2022 Diamond League champion and two-time Olympic medallist, finished second in both 2023 and 2024. He qualified for this year’s final in fourth place after taking part in two qualifying events, placing second in Doha with a season-best 90.23m and winning in Paris with 88.16 m.

The 27-year-old has competed in six events this season, winning four. His most recent outing was a victory at the Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru on July 5 with a throw of 86.18m. Also in the final are Andrian Mardare, Peters, Keshorn Walcott, Weber, Julius Yego, and the Swiss entry Simon Wieland.

The Diamond League is an elite one-day meeting series in global athletics. The DL Final is a winner-takes-all competition, with champions crowned in each of the 32 events. Winners also get a wild card for the World Championships in Tokyo from 13 to 21 next month, where Chopra will defend his world title.
