In a milestone leap in widening the scope Ayurveda globally, the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy (PCIM&H) signed an MOU with the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia, on Monday, 13th September, 2021.
– Objectives:
The MOU between Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy and the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia was signed keeping in mind multiple key objectives, enlisted below:
– To strengthen the quality of Ayurvedic & other Indian Traditional Medicine products globally:
By signing the coveted MOU, the Ministry of Ayush has paved the way for strengthening, promoting, and developing standards in the field of Ayurveda and other Indian Traditional systems of medicine between India-US on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.
– To enhance Indian Ayurveda’s export potential in global market:
The collaboration of efforts between India & USA will go a long way in in enhancing the export potential of the ASU&H (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathy) drugs, globally, especially in the USA market.
– To boost the confidence of the global community about the safety of ASU&H drugs
The move will further boost the confidence of the global community in India’s traditional medicines and assure them of the safety of ASU&H drugs.
Further, one of the major outcomes of this partnership will be that both PCIM&H and AHP, USA would be working to identify various challenges faced by the herbal market of Ayurveda products/drugs in the USA.
– To promote immunity of the body to fight against the prevalent infections
It is the intrinsic and the most primary objective of the Ministry of Ayush to to boost the body’s immunity against the prevalent infections and viruses.
During the times of the global pandemic, the traditional remedies nd cure of traditional Indian Ayurveda has gained much popularity.
About the MOU:
In addition to fulfilling the above objectives, the MOU encompasses the constitution of a Joint Committee to develop the action plan along with timelines for the development of Monographs and other activities for cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicine.
Further, the development of Monographs of Ayurveda & other Indian Traditional Medicinal and herbal products, exchange of technical data for the development of Monographs with due acknowledgement between the parties, training and capacity building, exchange of Herbarium specimens and Botanical Reference Samples and phytochemical reference standards are also part of the MoU.
The MoU between India and USA is hailed as a timely step to add further momentum to the ongoing initiatives of the Ministry of Ayush to strengthen the quality of Ayurveda and other Indian Traditional Medicinal products both inland and globally.
– Recent global partnerships in Ayurveda:
Most recently, an MOU was signed between All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) under the Ministry of Ayush with NICM Western Sydney University, Australia to appoint an Academic Chair in Ayurveda.
The MOU was signed via virtual mode, on 7th September, 2021.
– Ayurveda during Covid-19:
During the Covid-19 pandemic, PM Narendra Modi introduced the countrymen to the health benefits of traditional Ayurvedic practices and advised them to boost their immunity by the intake of Ayush suggested Kadha/herbs.
And, these herbal formulations have significantly helped people increase their immunity. Further, India’s low mortality rate is a clear indication of the magical healing powers of Ayurveda.
Further, Ayurveda and other AYUSH medicines have much to contribute in dealing with lifestyle disorders which are the major killers of this century.
