India to be sickle cell anaemia-free by 2047: Health Minister


Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that the country will be sickle cell anaemia-free by the year 2047. For this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start the Sickle Cell Anaemia Eradication Mission on Tuesday in Sahdol, Madhya Pradesh. Under this mission, a screening of 7 crore tribal people will be done so that patients can be identified.

On Monday, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that in order to make the country free from sickle cell anaemia, it is very important to identify its patients first. The benefit of screening would be that by identifying its patients, it would be prevented from progressing further. They will be given cards for this mission.

Speaking about the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that till now, 12 crore families have benefited from this scheme. People are being given free treatment up to Rs.5 Lakh under this scheme. The card given under the Ayushman Yojana can be used as a Health ATM Card, which can be used in any empaneled hospital. He said that the health of poor people is being ensured with the Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
