The Government has set a target of doubling farmer’s income by the year 2022 and established an Inter-Ministerial Committee to examine issues related to doubling farmers’ income to recommend a strategy to achieve this goal in real terms by 2022.

The committee appreciated the role of Digital Technology, which has the potential to revolutionize and organize how rural India performs its agricultural activities.

Agriculture today employs advanced technologies such as the use of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analytics, Blockchain Technology, the Internet of Things, robots, moisture sensors, Aerial photographs, and GPS technology on a regular basis.

Importance of Agricultural Technology

More efficient monitoring and control of natural resources, such as air and water quality, is now possible due to technological advancement. It also gives farmers more control over the cultivation, processing, distribution, and storage of plants and animals, resulting in lower costs and increased efficiencies.

Agriculture Voltage Technology

The ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute in Jodhpur constructed a 105 KW agri-voltaic system. This technology can raise the income of farmers by generating electricity and growing cash crops simultaneously on the same piece of land.

GIS-based Agriculture

Since fields are dependent on locations, GIS software becomes a very useful tool for precision farming. Farmers may use GIS software to map current and potential changes in precipitation, temperature, crop yields, plant health, and other variables.

Data from Drones

Farmers may use drones to precisely identify crop biomass, plant height, weed presence, and water saturation on specific field areas. Drones are often regarded as unrivaled allies in the fight against insects, the invasion could be avoided by spraying insecticide on dangerous areas with drone monitoring.

Weather analytics

Agronomists and meteorologists tend to view weather as the dominant factor influencing the yield and behavior of different crops.

Farmers can precisely apply irrigation and avoid frost or heat damage by analyzing weather data obtained from satellite imagery.

Govt is disseminating the information of various technologies among farmers by establishing various Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Agricultural Technology Management Agencies at the district level Under its Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Scheme, Four Farm Machinery Training & Testing Institutes(FMTTIs), Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)and National Food Security Mission (NFSM), etc.

Farmers are also informed about these latest technologies through Focused Publicity Campaigns, Kisan Call Centers, entrepreneur-run Agri-Clinics, Agri Fairs and Exhibitions, Kisan SMS Portal, and other platforms.

Agriculture’s promising innovations are moving into the future by leaps and bounds. They provide significant assistance to farmers in their efforts to optimize inputs, simplify farm management, and boost productivity.
