With an aim of bringing greater transparency, the Sainik School Society (SSS) is developing an automated system to conduct ‘e-Counselling’ for admissions into Sainik Schools
The decision to introduce online Counselling in the admission process of Sainik Schools has come at a time when the Government is setting up 100 new Sainik Schools throughout India.
The process of online Counselling will be applicable to the new schools, which will ensure complete transparency in the admission process. Further, it will be more affordable and user-friendly for all the stakeholders- schools, students, and administrative authorities.
It is noteworthy that it will provide access for real-time monitoring of the entire admission process, and necessary action, as required at each stage.
The modus operandi
To begin with, the Sainik Schools Society (SSS) aims to widely create awareness for students to apply for e-Counselling along with timelines.
Moving forward, a link will be sent to students, who secure more than qualifying marks as prescribed by SSS from time to time through email or mobile numbers. Concurrently, new Sainik Schools will be provided with suitable access rights to provide category and gender-wise information as well as the number of vacancies.
Further, the students will be asked to register through the link provided at the web portal www.sainikschool.ncog.gov.in and verify their details.
Sainik School Society receives overwhelming response
The landmark decision to clear the proposal of affiliation of 100 new Sainik Schools, including both public and private, with the Sainik School Society by the central government is considered as a historic step. As of 22nd January 2022, a total of 230 schools from various states have registered under the Sainik Schools Society.
The decision not only disseminates Sainik Schools’ expertise and experience to qualified private educational institutions but also promotes the unique initiative of public-private partnership.
Further, the Sainik Schools Society is seeking participation from more states and UTs in setting up new schools. The move is aimed at providing the Sainik School education pattern to a larger cross-section of aspiring students all over India.
Additionally, it will also provide an opportunity for students throughout the country to march ahead in tune with National Education Policy (NEP) along with following the Sainik School curriculum.
Plethora of benefits
Firstly, these schools will provide cost-effective ways in reaching out to larger populations across all regions in India. Further, the new schools will help meet the growing demand for Sainik Schools and provide effective physical, psycho-social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and cognitive development.
The Sainik School Society, an autonomous organization under the Defence Ministry, will provide affiliation to interested private or government schools based on certain objective criteria related to academics and infrastructure.
The scheme aims to provide annual fee support of 50% of fee (subject to an upper limit of ₹40,000 per annum) for 50% of the class strength (subject to an upper limit of 50 students) per year from Class 6 onwards to class 12, on merit-cum-means basis.
Initially, the total maximum expenditure on account of fee rebate will amount to ₹20 lakhs per class per school per year.
The expansion of Sainik Schools
In October last year, the Union Cabinet approved the affiliation of 100 Schools in the Government and private sector with the Sainik School Society. The move was kept with marching ahead in tune with National Education Policy (NEP). Further, it will increase the focus on value-based education enabling children to develop pride in the rich culture and heritage of this nation, effective leadership with character, discipline, sense of national duty, and patriotism.
