In a first, foreign Ministers of India-Israel-US-UAE to hold maiden meeting on economic front

:

External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar is on an official visit to Israel from 17th to 21st October to hold talks with Israel delegations including his counterpart Yair Lapid to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

In what comes as a first, EAM will also be a part of a maiden meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister, Yair Lapid, the United Arab Emirates’ Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, to enhance coordination and economic ties across the West Asian Region. Later today, i.e 18th October, 2021, the first ever virtual meeting of the four Foreign Ministers will take place which coincides with the visit of Foreign Minister Dr S. Jaishankar to Israel.

’The Abraham Accords 2020

The meeting of the Foreign Ministers is observed as a direct outcome of the Abraham Accords of 2020. This accord signed between UAE and Israel was formed to normalise ties between the two countries with both sides initiating commercial, telephonic links. It is pertinent to note that UAE is the first gulf country to normalise ties with Israel. Over the time, India has enhanced ties on the economic front with both UAE and Israel and since the accord came into existence, the three countries have worked on a trilateral agreement.

Earlier this year, the three countries signed the first-ever pact involving producing robotic solar cleaning technology in India for a project in the UAE by an Israel based company. The trilateral partnership was initiated by the International Federation of Indo-Israel Chambers of Commerce (IFIICC).

The Foreign Ministers of USA-Israel-UAE held talks last week in Washington which coincided with the Abraham Accord.

India-Israel Bilateral Relations

The relations between India-Israel on the economic front elevated to a strategic partnership during the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel in July 2017. PM Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel. Since then, the relations between the two countries have remained focused on expanding knowledge based partnership including collaborations in innovation and research and more.

Now, EAM Dr S. Jaishankar’s official visit to Israel has marked as his first visit as the External Affairs Minister. During his visit, Dr S. Jaishankar interacted with Israeli chambers of commerce & the innovation ecosystem. EAM stated that many post-Covid priorities including digital, health, agriculture & green growth are natural areas for our collaboration.
