Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani has said that Satellite Communication (Satcom) will not compete with ground-based mobile networks, but it will complement them. Addressing 3rd edition of Indian Space Conclave in New Delhi, the minister said, Satcom should be seen as complementary to terrestrial network technologies such as 5G and 6G for achieving widespread connectivity. Mr Pemmasani said, 5G and the upcoming 6G, combined with Satcom services, can connect both the ground and the sky. He said, Satcom should be utilised for last-mile connectivity and to bridge the prevalent digital divide in India. The minister highlighted Satcom’s potential in bridging the digital divide and emphasized the need for public-private partnerships to establish robust networks. He said, policies like the ‘SatCom Reform 2022’ have eased the path for both public and private sector participation, creating an environment where innovation thrives
