Dombivili: In a shocking incident at Dombivli, the Om Sai Mitra Mandal Ganesh idol has got blackened due to severe pollution. The Ganpati idol’s forehead and hands now look black. The residents were shocked and saddened to see their favourite deity wear a black colour, which they say is inauspicious.
The incident occurred at Ajde village, near Dombivli Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The local residents, however, doubt where pollution is the real reason and want an inquiry. After hearing the complaints that the Ganesh idol in Ajde village has turned black, the officials from Maharshtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) visited the mandal to investigate the real reason on Wednesday. The MPCB officials denied pollution is the cause of the colour change and claimed that they suspect spurious material was the reason behind the colour changing of the idol.
According to Santosh Panekar the artist who has made this idol has claimed he prepares over 200 Ganpati idols every year and till date and has not received any such complaints from any other mandal. MPCB officer said on request of confidentiality said, “We strongly suspect the colour used by the idol maker has changed due to some material problem. Industrial pollution is not the real reason of the Ganesh idol turning black.”
