Gamechanger, how Modi putting systems into place to ensure a better future for India
How Prime Minister Narendra Modi govt putting systems into place to ensure a better future for India & preserve the environment. Modi Have just come back after taking a round of a large sewage treatment plant of a facility that’s going under live monitoring
PMO, MOEFCC (Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India), Central Pollution Control Board and other statutory bodies have begun work on a massive interconnected net of sensors that will measure & monitor wastewater being generated & treated at all large commercial & industrial units in India
This system is designed to ensure no large industry or facility can release untreated sewage & harm the environment. The readings from the sensors will be monitored live at 7 locations including the PMO
In case of any sensor detecting a variance in water quality that does not meet norms it’ll send SMSes to all authorities, the management of the facility concerned will have to reply within 24 hrs failing which an automated notice will be generated.
A failure to respond within a week or an unsatisfactory response may invite legal action & disconnection of water connections. Best thing here is that because it’ll all be sensor driven with tamper proof sensors & cameras with data going to 7 different agencies there is little chance of corruption & blackmail by bureaucracy.
Implemented successfully this system will help purify & reuse billions of litres of wastewater that now goes to waste. Will help save water for the future.
In the 1st phase more than 350 industries, large hotels, offices, airports waterparks , hospitals and malls etc in the NCR are being connected with a view of protecting the Yamuna . This will be copied for all major cities soon, followed by the rest of India.
Point to note here is this is separate from NamamiGange where the centre is setting up 250+ Large STPs to treat domestic sewage before it can pollute the Ganga. This is more about ensuring industry & Commercial buildings adhere to already existent norms on pollution
This will help ensure water reuse thereby boosting available resources for domestic & other usage as well. Tied in with projects like NamamiGange & the Delhi lake building plan this will ensure our cities grow in an environmentally friendly manner & do not face shortages.
Modi here has lain the groundwork for a project which when complete will help ensure that millions of citizens of India whom he will likely never meet get to drink & use clean water. He is helping us build resource security in an age of water conflict.
Also, the cameras being installed will be used to ensure no manual scavenging or manual cleaning of sewage tanks is undertaken at any of the facilities covered. This will help to curb accidental deaths during manual scavenging.
