Exports of Ceramics and Glassware products reached $3.5 billion in FY22

India’s exports of Ceramic and Glassware products reached a record high of $3.5 billion for the financial year 2021-22. During the fiscal year 2013-14, India’s exports of ceramic and glassware products were valued at $1.3 billion.

The export growth of Ceramic tiles has been achieved because of a surge in shipments of Ceramic Tiles and Sanitary wares products. Indian Tile Industry has become a global player and earns foreign exchange for the nation with the “Make In India” approach today India is the World’s second-largest manufacturer of tiles, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said.

The export growth of Glassware products has been achieved because of a surge in shipments of Articles of Glass Packing of Goods, Sanitary fixtures of Porcelain, Glass Mirrors, Made-ups Articles of Glass Fibre, Tinted Non-Wired Glass, Glass Bead and Glass Wool.

Top countries for Ceramic and Glassware products exports

India exports to over 125 countries and its top destinations are Saudi Arabia, United States, United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Mexico, Kuwait, Oman, Indonesia, United Kingdom and Poland. New markets such as Russia and Latin American countries have also been added.

Government initiatives in Ceramic and Glassware products exports

The boom in the export of Ceramic and Glassware products has been achieved due to the continuous efforts of the Department of Commerce. Also, various initiatives have been taken by CAPEXIL using Grant in Aid under the Market Access Initiative scheme, such as organizing B2B exhibitions in various countries, exploring new potential markets through product-specific and marketing campaigns with the active involvement of Indian Embassies.

This export growth has been achieved despite unprecedented logistics challenges like high freight rates, container shortage etc. Small and medium exporters from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have benefited from increased exports of Ceramic and Glassware products.

Over the years, the industry has been modernizing through innovations and product profile, quality and design to emerge as a modern world class industry ready to face the global competition. India’s innovations in terms of new designs, digitally printed tiles and sizable tiles with different colors have also found acceptance in overseas markets.
