Experience the beauty of Srinagar’s Tulip Garden with 1.5 million alluring flowers

Set in the foothills of Zabarwan hills in Srinagar, Asia’s largest Tulip Garden has been opened for visitors. The tulip garden houses over one million tulips and has been attracting tourists from around the globe. The limited-edition tulip garden has been cultivated over months by more than 50 gardeners for the current Tulip Festival.

The garden was thrown open for the public by Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta while Director Floriculture, Director Health, Deputy Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation, and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Prior to the garden’s opening, Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir’s Department of Floriculture, Sheikh Fayaz said, “We have been working for nine months and expect more tourists this year.”

The decision to open the Tulip garden comes amid easing Covid restrictions as Kashmir is all set to witness a massive rush of visitors this year. The Tulip Festival in Srinagar annually attracts tourists from around the globe at the onset of spring.

Srinagar’s Tulip Garden: Asia’s largest Tulip Garden

Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip garden, which was previously known as Model Floriculture Center, is a tulip garden located in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. It is the largest tulip garden in Asia, that is spread over an area of about 30 hectares.

Situated on the foothills of Zabarwan Range with an overview of Dal Lake, the garden welcomed visitors for the first time in 2007. It aims to boost floriculture and tourism in Kashmir Valley and is built on a sloping ground in a terraced fashion consisting of seven terraces.

Apart from tulips, many other species of flowers – hyacinths, daffodils, and ranunculus have been added to the garden.

Tulip Festival is an annual celebration that aims to showcase the range of flowers in the garden as a part of tourism efforts by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. It is organized during the onset of the spring season in the Kashmir valley.
