महानगर चेन्नई में मंगलवार सुबह भूकंप के झटके महसूस किए गए। इस भूकंप का केंद्र बंगाल की खाड़ी में सतह से 10 कीलोमीटर की गहराई पर था। रिक्टर स्केल पर इस भूकंप की तीव्रता 5.1 मापी गई।
इसके झटके चेन्नई तक महसूस किए गए। जहां भूकंप की तीव्रता 4.9 महसूस की गई। इस कारण लोग दहशत में आ गए और घरों से बाहर निकल आए।
भूकंप इतना तेज था कि घर के दरवाजे और खिड़कियां हिलने लगीं। इस भूकंप के कारण हुए जानमाल के नुकसान की जानकारी फिलहाल नहीं मिल पाई है। स्थानीय प्रशासन ने लोगों से अभी कुछ देर के लिए घरों से बाहर रहने की हिदायत दी है।
