Desecration of idol in Chittoor temple fifth such incident in Andhra Pradesh, no action by YSRCP govt so far

Hindu temples in Andhra Pradesh are getting attacked repeatedly. In a fresh case, the idol of Nandi was desecrated in a Lord Shiva temple at Agara Mangalam village in Gangadhara Nellore Mandal of Chittoor district. This is the fifth temple that has been desecrated within this month.

In the last few months, a number of such incidents have taken place. No action has been taken so far against the miscreants so far.

According to Chittoor SP Senthil Kumar, information was received in the case in the wee hours of Sunday morning that some people had damaged the Nandi idol in a temple there, after which the local police reached the spot and took the situation under control.

“The police immediately rushed to the spot and started probing the matter. The Nandi idol was found broken into pieces nearby its pedestal. The police inquired from the local people about the incident,” Kumar said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC. A search operation has also been launched for the accused in the case.

However, no accused has been arrested in the previous cases and with the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government silent, the opposition parties are seeking a CBI probe.

TDP MP Jayadev Galla on Thursday slammed the government over rising attacks on temples in the state. He asked if the ruling YSR Congress is benefitting from this type of violence in the state. “There have been six attacks on Hindu temples in Andhra Pradesh since February this year. Nobody arrested till now. Culprits are no longer afraid. Is state govt allowing it to happen? Is YSR party benefitting from this type of violence? Yes, they’re benefitting,” said a TDP leader.
