Country receives 31 percent excess rainfall during this monsoon says IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says India has received 31 per cent excess rainfall during the monsoon season so far.

The weather department said that India gauged 13.78 cm precipitation against the normal of 10.05 cm till June 21. However, in the remaining areas of the country including Delhi, parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, there is little chance of it moving further in the next seven days.

According to the IMD, due to the western disturbance, there may be heavy rain in the western Himalayan region and adjoining areas of North West India for the next five days. IMD has forecast that heavy rains may occur in most parts of Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Bihar for the next five days. Along with this, most areas of South India may also receive heavy rains for the next one week.

In northwestern India, there is a rainfall of 71.3 mm compared to the normal rainfall of 40.6 mm during the period, which is said to be a surplus of 76 per cent. In central India, rainfall of 145.8 mm has been recorded, an increase of 58 per cent compared to the normal 92.2 mm. With this, the maximum temperature may increase by 3 to 4 degree Celsius in some areas of Northwest and Central India for the next three days.
