Kanyakumari District Temples – Land Records
Land Records of all the temples in Kanyakumari District and certain taluks in Tirunelveli District were handed over by the Public Department (Central Records), Trivandrum in 1960 to the Kanyakumari District Collector. However, till this date, the temples do not have settlement registers establishing ownership with them and in the absence of such ownership document, temples are not able to reclaim / recover the lands from the possession and enjoyment of untheorized people.
One Mr.Periya Nambi Narasimha Gopalan has filed WP MD No.8551 of 2020 through his counsel S Sridharan for directing the District Collector to transmit a copy of settlement registers lying him to each temple in Kanyakumari and certain taluks in Tirunelveli.
The Writ Petition came up today before the division bench of Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and P. Rajamanickam. The Hon’ble Court admitted the WP and posted it to 1.9.2020 for counter by the Respondents.
