The COVID 19 death toll in Bangladesh crossed 10 thousand with 84 deaths being reported on Thursday. According to the latest figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 4192 fresh Corona Positive cases were also reported during the same period.

Meanwhile, the second day of the 8-day long countrywide hard lockdown was being enforced across the country strictly. In Dhaka city, the roads had few vehicles as all modes of public transport including buses, trains, railways, waterways and flights were suspended. However, compared to day 1 of the lockdown, the number of vehicles on the road was larger.

Most of the shops in the town were closed except for grocery, fruits and vegetables and medical shops. However, factories are open.

Police have asked people to stay indoors during the lockdown.

Other towns and cities of Bangladesh are also observing lockdown with heavy police presence in some places to enforce the restrictions. At several towns and cities, including places like Bhola, police are enforcing the lockdown strictly.

The High Commission of India on Wednesday announced that it is temporarily suspending the visa operations in Bangladesh in view of the lockdown implemented by the government of Bangladesh from April 14. Visa operations in Bangladesh had resumed in October last year after remaining closed for more than 6 months since Covid pandemic hit Bangladesh in March last year.
